Trauma Therapy

Trauma can shape how we experience relationships, stress, and our sense of safety in the world. For many people, its impact shows up subtly — through anxiety, emotional shutdown, hypervigilance, or patterns in relationships that feel difficult to change.

You may be functioning well in many areas of life while still noticing that certain experiences or reactions feel disproportionate, confusing, or hard to regulate.

Trauma therapy helps you understand how past experiences continue to influence your present life and supports your nervous system in developing new ways of responding.

At here/now, our therapists provide thoughtful, trauma-informed care that prioritizes safety, pacing, and deep emotional understanding. We don't rush into the hard stuff — we build a foundation of trust first, and you set the pace.

What We Mean by Trauma

Trauma isn't limited to a single dramatic event. It can include childhood experiences of neglect or instability, difficult relational dynamics, the cumulative weight of chronic stress, or any experience that overwhelmed your capacity to cope at the time. Many of our clients don't initially identify as having experienced trauma — and that's okay. You don't need a label to benefit from this work.

Our Approach to Trauma Treatment

Our therapists integrate several trauma-informed and relational modalities, including:

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

  • Somatic experiencing and nervous system regulation

  • Attachment-focused therapy

  • Mindfulness-based approaches

These approaches help clients understand the internal parts that carry pain, protection, or survival responses — while building greater self-compassion and emotional regulation.

We offer trauma therapy in Brooklyn, NY and virtual trauma therapy throughout New York, Connecticut, Florida, and Vermont, supporting adults working through difficult life experiences, relationship patterns, and the long-term effects of stress and trauma.
